Arabic Morse Code Translator: Supported Letters and Rules

This translator maps Arabic letters directly to Arabic Morse assignments. It accepts right-to-left input and displays the resulting dots and dashes left to right so the signal order is unambiguous.

What the tool supports

The current version supports the 28 base Arabic letters plus hamza (ء). Spaces separate words. Arabic vowel marks are omitted because they do not have entries in the current map: سَلَام therefore produces the same output as سلام. Unsupported presentation forms and regional letters may also disappear from the result, so use base characters and compare important output with the original.

Scope and references

International Morse in ITU Recommendation M.1677-1 defines the familiar Latin alphabet, figures, punctuation, and procedural signals. Arabic alphabet assignments are a language-specific extension rather than part of that core A–Z table. Arabic worked checks and practical limits

Example 1 — سلام: read the letters in their written order as س + ل + ا + م. Their mapped groups are ... + .-.. + .- + --, so the result is ... .-.. .- --. One space separates each letter group.

Example 2 — باب بيت: the first word maps as ب + ا + ب, or -... .- -.... The second maps as ب + ي + ت, or -... .. -. The tool displays a larger word gap between the two: -... .- -... -... .. -.

Use this page to check classroom exercises, compare an Arabic spelling with its signal groups, or prepare a practice list for visual and audio recognition. Do not use it as an automatic transliterator for Persian, Urdu, or regional Arabic letters: characters outside the documented map require a separate convention.

Arabic copy-check checklist

  • Remove decorative elongation marks and confirm that each remaining character appears in the table.
  • Compare the number of Arabic base letters with the number of Morse groups before each word boundary.
  • Check hamza and visually similar presentation forms separately; do not assume the tool silently substitutes them.
  • Paste the Morse result into the decoder and compare the returned sequence with the documented map.

For example, a four-letter base word should normally produce four separated groups. If it produces three, inspect the missing character rather than sending the shorter result. This check is especially important when text was copied from a formatted document or messaging app.

Record the convention and date beside any saved translation so another reader can reproduce the same mapping later. This is especially useful when classroom material or an organization uses a different regional extension.

Why are vowel marks not shown in the Morse result?
The current map assigns signals to base letters. Short-vowel marks are removed, so check the unvowelled spelling before relying on the output.
Does the right-to-left display reverse the signal order?
No. Arabic input remains right to left, while the Morse groups are displayed in transmission order from left to right.
Are Persian and Urdu letters supported?
Not unless the character appears in the published Arabic map. Unsupported regional letters should be converted only under the convention used by the receiving service.
How are words separated?
Letters use one visible space. Words use a wider three-space boundary so they remain distinguishable when copied as text.
Can I verify a result myself?
Yes. Split the word into base letters, compare each one with the mapping table above, then check the groups and spaces in order.
