How This 36-Character Reference Is Organized

The interactive grid above contains 26 Latin letters and 10 numerals from the International Morse table. Tap or focus a card and activate it to copy that exact sequence. Punctuation is intentionally kept out of this compact grid; use the translator when you need a supported punctuation mark.

Letter Lengths at a Glance

The alphabet is not a list of equally long codes. Grouping letters by signal count makes the structure easier to check and gives you smaller practice sets.

The Numeral Pattern

Every numeral uses five signals. From 1 to 5, leading dots increase while trailing dashes decrease: .----, ..---, ...--, ....-, ...... From 6 to 0, leading dashes increase while trailing dots decrease: -.... through -----.

Scope and Source

The A–Z and 0–9 assignments are checked against ITU Recommendation M.1677-1. Language extensions such as Ñ or Arabic letters are documented on their own translator pages because they are not part of this compact Latin-letter grid.

A visual chart is useful for lookup, but listening practice is a different task. Use the audio player to hear timing, or the practice quiz to test recall without looking at the table.

Alphabet Reference Questions

Why are punctuation marks not shown in this grid?
The grid is deliberately limited to A–Z and 0–9 so it remains scannable. The translator handles the punctuation included in its documented map.
Do lowercase letters use different signals?
No. International Morse does not encode letter case; A and a use the same signal.
What does tapping a card do?
It copies that card’s dot-and-dash sequence to the clipboard. The character map itself is also printed visibly below each shape.

Reading direction and boundaries

Read each character from its first signal to its last, then pause before the next character. The printed space between cards is a visual aid; in sound, timing creates the boundary. Reversing a pattern changes the letter—for example, A is .- while N is -..

Example 1 — CODE: find C (-.-.), O (---), D (-..) and E (.), then keep one letter boundary between groups: -.-. --- -.. ..

Example 2 — 907: look in the numeral grid for 9 (----.), 0 (-----) and 7 (--...). The complete group is ----. ----- --....

Use the grid as a correction sheet during practice, a quick reference while decoding a puzzle, or a source for building short listening drills. For transmitted text, learn the rhythm rather than treating every symbol as a visual drawing.

Which letters are easiest to confuse?
Short related branches such as A/N, U/D and R/K are common early mix-ups. Compare both the signal order and the sound rhythm.
Should I memorize the printed dots and dashes?
The chart is useful for checking work, but learners who want to copy Morse by ear should also practise whole-character sounds without looking at the grid.
