How the Five-Signal Number Pattern Works
Each International Morse numeral contains five signal elements. That fixed length is the main difference from letters, which use between one and four elements. The interactive cards above play the exact five-element sequence shown below each numeral.
Numbers 1 Through 5
Start with one leading dot for 1 and add one dot as the numeral increases. The remaining positions are dashes: 1 is .----, 2 is ..---, 3 is ...--, 4 is ....-, and 5 is ......
Numbers 6 Through 0
The second half starts with a leading dash. Each following numeral adds another leading dash while trailing dots decrease: 6 is -...., 7 is --..., 8 is ---.., 9 is ----., and 0 is -----.
Check a Multi-Digit Group
Encode each digit independently and preserve a character boundary between them. For example, 507 is ..... ----- --.... Combining the groups without spaces would remove the digit boundaries.

Standard Numerals Versus Operator Shorthand
The cards and examples on this page always use the full five-element numeral codes from the International table. Some operating communities use context-specific abbreviations called cut numbers, but those conventions are not generated here and should not be substituted unless the receiving procedure expects them.

Worked check: 73 versus 37
73 is --... ...--; reversing the digit order gives ...-- --.... Both digits still contain five elements, which is why counting alone is not enough: verify the dot-and-dash order and the character boundary.
Where number groups are used
Use the five-signal numeral table to check dates, frequencies, serial-style identifiers, coordinates, or puzzle answers. Keep each digit separate: 73 is --... ...--, not one continuous ten-element character.
Can I shorten number signals?
Some experienced operators use procedural abbreviations in specific radio contexts, but this reference intentionally shows the full International Morse numeral patterns. Follow the rules of the service or exercise you are using.
How should I check a copied number?
Count five elements in every digit, compare the dot-to-dash progression, then verify the boundaries before sending or submitting the answer.
Keep the source number beside the Morse groups when accuracy matters. A second reader can then check sequence, element count, and spacing without reconstructing the intended digits from context.
